Growth Products - TKO Phosphite and Essential®: An Unbeatable Combo for Vegetable Growers

TKO Phosphite 0-29-26, Essential 1-0-1
Janurary 2016

Our main focus in the vegetable market is helping farmers improve crop yields and quality. Growth Products' effective and environmentally friendly fertilizers and biostimulants make that an easy task, and we've been constantly amazed at what a difference Growth Products can make in both the crops and in farmers' bottom-line.

Potatoes and More. . .

At this time of year - in early to mid-January - many Florida farmers turn their attention to potatoes. Potato growers can jumpstart their crops by applying a combination of TKO Phosphite 0-29-26 and Essential Plus™ 1-0-1 at the time of seeding and repeating the application every two weeks.

Both products have strong biostimulant properties, so this application combo really speeds up germination and gets the crop up and moving very quickly. The recommended rate is 2 quarts of TKO per acre, and 2 quarts of Essential per acre. Application is easy, and after a jar test, the products can be tank mixed with conventional fertilizers, most micronutrients, organic supplements and nearly all biological fungicides.

Having personally seen what a difference TKO and Essential can make in crops, we were fascinated by the article "Biostimulant activity of phosphite in horticulture," which was recently published in Scientia Horticulturae.(1) The article summarizes three decades of scientific evidence showing that phosphite (Phi) is an effective biostimulant.

The authors conclude that phosphite improves nutrient uptake, increases abiotic stress tolerance, promotes root growth, and enhances quality and yield in crops such as potatoes, celery, sweet peppers, strawberries, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, citrus, and more. On field-grown crops, phosphite is most effective when applied as a foliar spray to plant leaves, and when adequate amounts of phosphate are present for nutritional support. (For hydroponically grown crops, phosphite is most effective when applied to the roots.)

What's next?

In addition to planting potatoes, many Florida growers are getting ready to plant broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbages, cucumbers, onion sets, peas, peppers, sweet corn, as well as many others.. For a head start on a healthy vegetable crop, the use of both TKO Phosphite and Essential Plus to quickly activate germination and set the stage for future crop development can't be beat.

For all those crops, a complete nutrition program with NPK and micronutrients will also be necessary. We welcome the opportunity to talk to you about your special agronomic needs, and to help design a complete program for each of your crops.
